Harewood House and its grounds have always been popular due to the beautiful architecture of the house, elaborate interiors, and stunning grounds. I've been so many times over the years, as a seventeen-year-old studying Capability Brown for my A-level art and now, I take my own children.

I started this illustration thinking that I would do the front of the house, but the more I visited Harewood the more I realised that I actually think of the view from the Walled Garden looking up to the house. Lots of additional feedback said the same - so that's what I did!

Included in this illustration is the Walled Garden and I've brought out a Chippendale chair for the occasion (I'm not sure that would be normally allowed!). Situated at the front are two stone urns from the Terrace (the Parterre area) and beyond the wall is the The Lake, The Stepping Stones, the bridge with Gunnera Manicata (or giant rhubarb), the Himilayan Garden with bridge and Stupa are also featured. A carved stone Sphinx from the Parterre is close to The Courtyard (Old Stables) and I've added a characterised tree, taken from the Harewood's famous Chinese wallpaper. I wanted to bring some of the house outside as the interior of Harewood House is unbelievably beautiful (a textile designer and illustrators dream!). Also shown is an aerial view of the Parterre (lower Terrace area) in a pattern format and behind that is another pattern created from The China Room ceiling. Various resident wildlife are featured discreetly around the illustration and I've used my signature pallet of greens to illustrate the Estate, which compliment and pair perfectly with my other Yorkshire illustrations.
